Southern Georgian Bay boaters are blessed with the finest freshwater cruising in the world, weaving their way amongst the unforgettable 30,000 Islands.

The rugged scenic shoreline served as idyllic inspiration for the Group of Seven artists and today are a beautiful backdrop for boaters to chart a course for many memorable moments. Disappear for a day, a week or more and never run out of amazing anchorages and majestic views.

Full service marinas and municipal ports offer a chance to restock and relax with fuel, food, supplies, entertainment and superb shopping in unique boutiques just steps from your boat. Sailors will rejoice in the deep water harbours and bountiful breezes on the bay. Exhilaration awaits paddlers who wind their way into secluded spots to savour the silence.

Seeking sandy shores? Head to Giant's Tomb with its sloping shoreline for family fun in the shallow waters or step ashore and stretch your legs along interpretive hiking trails on Beausoleil Island, part of Georgian Bay Islands National Park.

Historic lighthouses dot the shoreline and while most are accessible by water only, take a tour on the Miss Midland or Georgian Queen to spy on some of these silent beacons that served for a century or more.  Schooners, barges, tugs and freighters regularly plied the waters of the Great Lakes carrying cargo and passengers between ports. Many of these vessels met tragic endings on the rocks and shoals as they made their way to and from the bustling ports of Penetanguishene and Midland.

Divers can discover their stories in the underwater world.
